My Amphibious Statement (updated)

I am obsessed with the ocean. I have a yearning to be submerged in the ocean's deep, mysterious environment — exploring dark corners and murky creatures while listening to tranquil sounds.

The wheel becomes an extension of my body. I create my work imagining I am a sea creature floating through the dark atmosphere, breathing in the salty water. I am captivated by the textured surfaces of the undersea environment and recreate them in my work.

The pieces I create express my emotions and awareness of our ocean's spirit. My work is intended to function as an illustration of experience and contemplation. By observing my work, the viewer accompanies me on my internal journey.

Girl Talk Thursday - Being Crafty

Being artsy/crafty/creative makes up the most of me. I'm not sure when it happened, or why, I just always felt the need a way to express myself without words. As a little girl raised by my theatrical grandmother, I was always painting, drawing, or making something out of nothing. Her voice would sweep throughout our tiny home as I would draw park scenes with markers and pencils. During her shows, I was alone alot so my pretend brother and I would draw together.

I guess since my home life was "different" I needed to vent or react to it, almost in an instinctual way I suppose. I would take photographs, draw and paint everything but when I touched clay for the first time it moved me like nothing before....my eyes awoke and my heart filled clay intoxication. I submerged myself in pottery and felt this was my media. With clay I am unlimited I can create ANYTHING, I am superwoman!

I have titled my work Saltwater Ceramics so I will never steer too far from my initial inspiration, our oceans. My work is to always enlighten and inform people to protect our seas and lifeforms while evoking emotion.

I think anyone can be crafty/creative it just depends on how they view the definition.

Wanna see more?

Hello, It's me.

My baby boy is officially 11 months old today...what a whirlwind it has been. I am just now realizing I never have free time anymore.

Other artists (which are my worst critics) DID mention however, that after the baby, I will never have the time to create any pottery. That they will never see me again in the art scene and basically telling me to quit doing what I love. Most of the time, I don't take what people say to heart, I simply listen but don't accept negativity. Maybe they have seen it in other artists, maybe that's what happened to them while they raised their kids...not me. I MUST CREATE, it's in my soul, my heart and it's what makes me...me.

Now is the busiest time of the year for me as a potter. With three shows coming up, I'm trying to wrap my mind around how to "find" the time to create additional work to my REbirth concept in my Amphibious Series. Perhaps I can sleep less, maybe hire a nanny or just DO IT. Which is my only option.

With the OctoberBEST coming up on October 10th, I have been focused on making oversized coffee mugs, goblets and steins to hold beverages. During this event it will be fun for all ages and when you purchase a ceramic piece, you get a free drink..BONUS! But the best part is my hubby will be playing with his band Dead End Stare from 3-5. And since Mitch loves the microphone, I hope to get him to sing a tune or two.

It's so exciting to introduce my new series to my friends, families and art lovers. I'm feeling like me again, its good to be back!

Inspiration

Nature is my inspiration for any work I create, whether it's ceramics or graphic design. I found a beautiful feather in my backyard and imaged a glaze that was similar. This is a perfect example of how I combine mother nature and my work:

Girl Talk Thursday - Shower Routine

So my friend, and fabulous writer Mommy Melee, uses her honesty and humor in every bit of writing. She hosts these Girl Talk Thursday's and to be honest I feel a little strange even blogging. I am no writer by any means but am a creative being just with clay, paint or graphics. I started this blog for family to see my little boy grow up but she has inspired me to write more! So here goes, please ignore the grammer errors.

My bathroom routine today was VERY interesting to say the least..perfect timing for this week’s topic. I am a shower a day person, i know I know it's bad for my hair blah... but without washing it I can hardly comb it out. The curls knot up quickly, perfect for dread locks but that doesn't seem to convince my hubby.... I think he would cut them off in my sleep. Ya he has long hair and is a musician so you would think he would be down with the locks but nope, no go.

Anyways, two days ago I went all out and made a hair appointment at the new Aveda salon, Beyond. This was big. I haven't had anything done to my hair since I was pregnant and I went for it. I told Taylor I was open to suggestions. He said copper, I said do it! The cut and color looks amazing, big ups T!

I had to take a shower today and normally I take one when the boy is asleep during his morning nap, but today no way, I was dying to comb my hair out. My challenge was how to keep him happy while I take the quickest shower ever. I grabbed three toys he never plays with, sat him on the soft carpet, turned on the shower and went for it. Since it's a walk-in shower I knew this would be difficult. All of a sudden I see the curtain move and bam there he was laughing at me, as if to say, "What were you thinking momma?"

He quickly moved the curtain to the side and began reaching for anything in his sight, puddles, soap pieces and even my toes. All I got to do was wash my hair with my Pantene product and condition with my new Aveda conditioner Curls. I have used the same soap for years, Dove refreshing cucumber. I quickly lathered it all over and and that was all she wrote. My boy tried to eat his hands he soaked in the water and soap, slipped on the wet marble step and was completely drenched from the shower spray. The end result? I combed my hair and felt a little better for the day ahead.

Throw in more time, a shave here and there and that's it, that’s my routine. I try to moisturize my face after the shower everyday with Neutrogena face conditioner and sometimes I will add curl enhancers product when my hair is wet. I'm so low maintenance and don't even blow-dry my hair. Considering my low maintenance schedule, my sun habit and chlorine pool activities, I hope this new color lasts longer than a month! Here is a rough photo of the new do:

My Baby Boy

Oh my little baby boy you mean the world to me. I like to watch you laugh and make those funny noises. What are you saying anyways?

My favorite is chasing you down the hall as you look back as if to say, “come on and get me.” You laugh hysterically then lay your head down on the carpet. Sometimes I laugh so hard tears fall.

I love your smile, even your fake one for the camera, it’s adorable. I like seeing your baby teeth pop out with your elaborate grin.

I love our nighttime ritual of brushy time before bed. I can tell you love the taste and the texture of the bristles on your tongue.

When you raise your hands and dance to any music it makes me and daddy dance with you. You make us act so silly!

We like watching you with other people too, it’s like you are telling a hilarious story.

We look forward to your first steps and know they are not far away. But until that day, we cherish every new moment with you!

You are my pumpkin, my pookie bear and my everything. I love you.
