I will be training in Orlando in April 2011, to become a Bradley Instructor! YIPPEE!
To become a teacher, there were several requirements that I needed to meet. First, these books must be read (thank goodness I read most of them already):
Husband Coached Childbirth by Dr. Robert Bradley
Natural Childbirth The Bradley Way by Susan Mc Cutcheon-Rosegg, AAHCC
Children at Birth (currently out of print) by Mrjie and Jay Hathaway, AAHCC
Assistants Coach's Manual by Susan Bek, AAHCC
Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League International
They also recommend the following books:
Obstetrics Illustrated by Miller/Callander
Emergency Childbirth by Dr Gregory White
The THINKING WOMANS GUIDE to a BETTER BIRTH by Henci Goer
The Birth Book by Dr. William & Martha Sears (one of my favorites)
Metabolic Toxemia of Late Pregnancy by Dr. Thomas Brewer
Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering by Dr. Sarah Buckley
And there was a questionnaire I had to answer in lengthy detail. These are two of the most personal questions they asked:
Why should your application be accepted?
Natural birth and a woman's ability to give life without intervention and medication was a life changing moment for me. I would love to share and teach people the confidence and knowledge of my passion of natural childbirth the Bradley way.
What do you feel you have going for you? Your strong points?
I am a hardworking, passionate, educated person. I own and run my own business and find being my own boss is challenging and rewarding, very similar to parenthood. During my first pregnancy I became focused and consumed with natural childbirth and wanted to spread my knowledge. Now, in my second pregnancy, I have an experienced, passionate voice for promoting the beauty of natural childbirth.
